About Us
Both Kristen and Kathy took great comfort in participating in new moms' groups. Through their own experiences, they discovered a community of new friends. These friendships have remained important to them; and they enjoy watching their children grow alongside the friends they made years ago.
Kristen Kardos, MA Ed., has been coordinating and facilitating new moms' groups since 2006. She received a BA in Spanish and Education from Boston College and graduated with a Masters in Education Administration from NYU. She taught Spanish and ESL classes in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, California, and New York. Having worked with students from around the world, Kristen embraces diversity and enjoys meeting new people. She founded her own RIPlaydates group to bring parents and children together through activities and fun. Kristen understands the importance of support and community; and values building solid relationships based on trust and communication. Her most important job is being "Mommy" to Drew and Dean, her wondrous little boys.
Kathy McGuigan, MSW, has been working with women and children for 16 years. As a social worker, she has provided services for women and children in a variety of settings including shelters, community health centers, and schools. The support Kathy received during her pregnancy and as a new mother inspired Kathy's work with pregnant and parenting women. Most recently, Kathy has enjoyed facilitating New Mom and Pregnancy Support Groups which combine her passion for motherhood with her professional skills and experience. Kathy received a BA in Psychology and Women's Studies from Fairfield University and her Masters Degree in Social Work from UC Berkeley, but she is currently receiving the best education of her life from her delightful daughter, Alex.
Kristen and Kathy are also members of the RI Birth Network as well as contributing writers for kidoinfo.
